Oatmeal Box Jump
Here is a an oatmeal container agility jump that I made to help my 4-H kids.
Materials
The materials you will need to make this jump are:
- 2 oatmeal containers
- 4 paper towel rolls
- 1 toilet paper roll
- Duct tape, construction paper or other items to decorate
Step 1
The first thing you will do is to strip the paper off the oatmeal containers.
Next, using a ruler, make a straight line down the side from top to bottom of the first oatmeal container. Do the same to the other.
Measure 4 inches from the bottom of the first oatmeal container on the line and mark this spot. Take the toilet paper roll and use it to draw a circle just below the mark you made. The vertical line should be in the middle of the circle. Then measure 4 more inches from the bottom mark and using the toilet paper roll do this again.
Using a pair of scissors or other cutting tool cut along the bottom half of each circle. Do not cut the circle out!
Do the same thing to the second oatmeal container.
Step 2
Take the toilet paper roll and cut it in half lengthwise.
Then take each half and cut it in half widthwise.
There should be 4 pieces. The picture shows what it will look like when you insert the toilet paper roll pieces into the oatmeal box. These will hold the rails.
Step 3
Now to make the rails.
Take two paper towel rolls and put them end to end.
Take a piece of duct tape and wrap it in the center between the two paper towel rolls to hole them together.
Now, take the duct tape and cover the paper towel rolls lengthwise. This will take four strips. Make sure there is enough overhang at each end to wrap the tape inside the paper towel rolls.
Do the same to the other two rolls.
Step 4
Now you decorate the oatmeal containers.
You can do this with the duct tape (recommended due to water protection if you take it outside), construction paper, paint, scrapbook paper, stickers, pictures, etc.
You will want to cover the oatmeal containers being careful to recut the holes for the rails. When I duct taped mine I also duct taped the rail holders and it helped to stablize them.
Then put the rails on and wala! you have your own homemade jump. You can make as many as you want and even stack them.
If you use them outside I recommend that you put the oatmeal container tops under the containers to keep the bottom from getting wet. You can always put fake flowers in the containers for decoration.
I hope you have fun with your homemade (and cheap) jumps.
God bless, Dawn
