Here is the Michigan law on homeschooling from HSLDA
How to homeschool
There are many ways to homeschool. Here are a few of them.
- Traditional - use of textbooks
- Unit Studies - all learning centers around a theme or subject
- Unschooling- more of a child led than parent led schooling method
- Delight Directed learning - Parent led, but geared toward the child's interests
- Classical - based on the trivium (grammar, logic, & rhetoric) way of teaching
- Eclectic - a blend of several different learning styles
If you are considering homeschooling, you may want look up these different types of learning styles before deciding on one and research them. I am sure you will find many more than what I have listed.
A good way to get into homeschooling is to go to your state's homeschool convention. Many states have them. The one in Michigan that I am familiar with is the INCH conference in Lansing in May. INCH stands for Information Network for Christian Homeschoolers. Here is the Link:
Another way to learn how to homeschool is to either talk to a family that homeschools or to visit your local homeschool group. We here in Northeast Michigan in the Hale, Tawas, Oscoda area belong to the Homespun Explorers Homeschool group. See our page here on the website.
